C. Anthony Smith (Tony) CPA, CFE, FBI Special Agent – Retired

Tony served as an FBI Special Agent for 25 years. He led and supervised the Complex Financial Crimes Squad for the Atlanta Division of the FBI prior to his retirement on June 30, 2021. Tony’s team aggressively investigated sophisticated financial crimes to include Corporate Fraud, Financial Institution Fraud, Frauds and Swindles, and Theft of Intellectual Property.

During his career with the FBI, Tony was assigned to the Houston Field Office, the Valdosta Georgia Resident Agency, the Budapest Organized Crime Task Force in Budapest Hungary, and the Atlanta Field Office.

Tony is an accomplished agent who has investigated a gamut of sophisticated financial crimes from a bank president who caused a local bank to fail to a transnational criminal enterprise. Tony oversaw multiple high stakes fraud investigations while he supervised the Complex Financial Crime Squad, and he has participated in the investigation and prosecution of public officials to include judges, prosecutors, and corrupt members of law enforcement.

Tony received the FBI Shield of Bravery, the United States Drug Enforcement Administrator’s Award, the Houston 100 Club Super Cop Award, in addition to numerous awards in recognition of his service in the FBI.

Tony played football for the Georgia Southern Eagles while he obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting. After graduating, he worked for a regional public accounting firm where he focused on corporate, partnership and individual taxation, small business strategic planning, audit, review and compilation of financial statements, management advisory services and Medicaid reporting.

Tony is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Private Investigator, licensed in the State of Georgia and North Carolina. He is also a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).

Gordon H. Hurley, Jr., FBI Special Agent - Retired

Gordon H. Hurley, Jr., served as an FBI Special Agent for over 30 years. Gordon has over 40 years of law enforcement experience. Gordon was the leader of the Columbus Resident Agency of the FBI and well known as a no nonsense get it done investigator. For 28 years, Gordon was an FBI Crisis Negotiator and the Atlanta Division’s Crisis Negotiation Team Leader. He is an FBI Academy Adjunct Instructor and a Georgia POST Certified Instructor. Gordon also served multiple tours embedded with U.S. military units in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and other overseas duty stations in the fight against Al Qaeda and ISIS. In the FBI, Gordon excelled in the investigation of a broad range of investigative responsibilities including sophisticated financial crimes, public corruption, violent crimes, and counterterrorism.

Gordon was awarded the FBI Meritorious Service Medal, FBI Overseas Combat Ribbon with Gold Star, and the FBI Director’s Award for Outstanding Criminal Case of the Year.

Prior to becoming an FBI Special Agent, Gordon served with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in Tampa, Florida. Gordon was a Financial Analyst in the Tampa Division of the FBI from 1980 – 1983 until he became a Deputy with the Hillsborough County SO prior to his 30 years of service as an FBI Agent. Gordon began as a patrol deputy and rose to the rank of Homicide Detective. Gordon majored in Criminal Justice, and he has a minor in Accounting from the University of South Florida.

Gordon possesses a Master’s Degree in Public Administration (MPA) and is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy (FBINA 260th session). Gordon is a Columbus State University Law Enforcement Command College Instructor. Gordon teaches executive training courses for law enforcement and public safety professionals transnational criminal enterprise.

Paul Fike - CPA, CFE, FBI Special Agent - Retired

Paul Fike served in various capacities during his 24 years as a Special Agent of the FBI in Houston, Atlanta, and FBI Headquarters (FBIHQ). Paul was a Supervisory Special Agent in the Cyber Division at FBIHQ and on the Complex Financial Crimes squad in the Atlanta Division. He has worked all types of financial crimes in his career including bank fraud, bank failures, business email compromise, corporate fraud, embezzlements, health care fraud, investment fraud, money laundering and Ponzi schemes. He also served as Atlanta’s Undercover Program Coordinator and Confidential Human Source Coordinator.

Paul is an accomplished and highly respected criminal investigator responsible for successfully bringing numerous complex and high-profile white collar crime investigations to resolution. In his role as a case agent, Paul oversaw multiple fraud cases with losses in the hundreds of millions of dollars. Paul was instrumental in dismantling a number of criminal enterprises involved in private insurance and health care fraud. His work with a variety of other government and law enforcement agencies culminated in a large number of criminal convictions, recoveries, and forfeitures.

Obtaining these results required Paul to interview hundreds of witnesses, victims, and subjects. For his exemplary efforts, Paul was honored with numerous awards and accommodations from within the Department of Justice as well as from outside government agencies and private sector organizations.

In addition to his having an extensive white collar crime background, Paul worked violent crime and intelligence matters. He was also a member of the FBI’s Evidence Response Team (ERT), resulting in him obtaining extensive training and experience in the collection and preservation of crucial evidence.

Prior to joining the FBI, Paul worked as an auditor for Ernst & Young and in finance at BellSouth. Paul has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Clemson University. Paul is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensed in the State of Georgia and is also a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).

Matt Galioto - CPA, FBI Special Agent - Retired

Matt served as an FBI Special Agent for 25 years with an extensive background in the investigation and criminal enforcement of white-collar and organized crime. Matt acquired an understanding of complex criminal and civil statutes and experience in developing a solid body of evidence to aid in successful case resolutions. Matt established strong collaborative relationships with financial institutions, corporate leaders, government officials, regulatory agencies and domestic and international law enforcement entities. Matt has extensive expertise across a wide range of investigatory techniques including surveillance, wiretapping, confidential sources, undercover operations, witness interviews and interrogations. Matt led and conducted investigations with a specialization in bank fraud, insurance fraud, mortgage fraud, government fraud, securities fraud, corporate fraud, Ponzi schemes and investment fraud. Matt collaborated on investigations with the Department of Justice, U.S. Attorneys’ Offices of the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, and the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Some of Matt’s larger investigations include a financial advisor and his partner defrauding National Hockey League players out of over 30 millions of dollars over a ten-year period, a Long Island, New York brokerage firm bilking investors out of 200 million dollars, and a hedge fund manager who defrauded victims in numerous countries of over 55 million dollars. The case was featured on New Zealand’s version of “60 Minutes” and was made into a movie “To Catch a Con Man” by New Zealand’s Isola Production. Another notable case was an investment fraud involving gold mines that defrauded investors of over 200 million dollars. The case was worked with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and was the biggest Ponzi scheme in Canadian history.

Prior to joining the FBI, Matt graduated from Pace University in 1988 with a degree in Accounting. Matt went on to pass the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam and worked at Arthur Andersen & Company.
